Situation
For a national bank, downtime on banking and mobile money means lost trust, regulatory trouble, and real money. The systems had to survive failures of parts, and even whole data centres, and recover inside tight limits.
Action
I built resilience and recovery into the design rather than bolting it on. Critical parts run in more than one place with automatic failover, data is copied with clear recovery targets, and the systems slow down gracefully under stress instead of falling over. Just as important, I had the recovery tested in real drills, not left on paper.
Impact
The bank has held 99.98% uptime on its most important systems, serving more than a million customers, with recovery targets leadership and the regulator can rely on.
Insight
Uptime is earned in the failure drills, not the architecture diagram. Recovery that has never been tested is a hope, not a control.
